Questions About Locations

Question:

Is the Mazi based on a real building somewhere?

Answer:

Many of the places in the Spindlebrock books are based on actual locations. The Mazi, however, is not.

Question:

Where is the location of the building that the Cascabela is based on?

Answer:

The book states that it is "located in a mountainous forest northeast of Salem", in Tamil Nadu, India. While there is no exact building that the Cascabela is based on, the imagined location is based on the Kalvarayan Hill Forests, northeast of Salem. The jungle-like nature described in the book is perhaps a bit overstated for this part of India, but I don't think it's too far off.

Questions About Characters

Question:

Where does the name "Spindlebrock" come from?

Answer:

Spindlebrock isn't a real name at all. If you search online, you'll find that the name "Brock" comes from the Germanic / Old English word "brocc", which means "badger". The badger was a symbolically meaningful animal in ancient Germanic cultures, bringing the ideas of courage and persistence to mind. And you know what a Spindle is. The combination is more about an interesting sound, than an interesting concept. My wife does love to spin fibers, so I can dedicate the name to her persistence in that hobby!
